Aerospace industry had a
vibrant month with the
Gulf Aircraft
Maintenance Company
bagging two contracts,
one from the Tunisian
Air Force to carry out
heavy maintenance on the
Lockheed C130 B&H
aircraft and the other a
new five-year Dh343m
contract by the UAE Air
Force and Air Defence.
Growth in business class
passengers was witnessed
while news flight
destinations were
established. This led
many airlines to plan to
induct more planes in
their fold by 2010. In
accordance, the Seeb
International Airport
has set an ambitious
plan to increase its
annual handling capacity
from the present 3 m
passengers to 48 m while
the Abu Dhabi Airports
Company plans to
outsource the airport
services at Abu Dhabi
International Airport.
Also, an Aviation Centre
of Excellence in the
Middle East has been
planned by Sikorsky
Aircraft Corp of the US
and Qatar-based Gulf
Helicopters.
By appointing a new
chief executive officer
and re-launching its
website, Gulf Air is
looking forward to a
more improved
performance by the
company.
Overall, the aerospace
industry kept up its
pace at all fronts.
